Obituary for Andrew Shawn Burk

Father, husband, chef and musician, outdoorsy and sportsy, a nerdy technician. Self proclaimed man child who doesn't ever want to grow up. Adults are boring and predictable; I want nothing to do with any of it.- Andrew Shawn Burk

Andrew was born April 18, 1975 in Salmon, Idaho and died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Mackay Reservoir, on Sunday October 20, 2019. He was heading "home" to Challis, if only we'd known it was his final trip.

Andrew spent most of his early years in the Salmon, Challis area with his Mom, Kathy Ogden (Parrish). He developed a great love for the outdoors and the beautiful mountains of Central Idaho. Whenever he wanted to relax, have fun, or gather his thoughts he headed to Challis.

Andrew was the only child of Kathy Ogden and Val Burk. Kathy raised him the best she could, it wasn't easy with his independent, "I'll do what I want nature." Kathy preceded him in death in 2017.

Andy, as he is known to many, went to school in both Salmon and Challis with many of his cousins. There are too many stories and adventures to be listed here, but the adventures of the Burk boys are legendary.

He had a musical gift and if music was playing he was tapping a beat and strumming a guitar. He used his drumming talents with a few different groups and played in the worship band at Calvary Chapel for a couple of years. He passed his musical gift on to his son Christian who we hope will continue to play.

Andrew met Nicole Harris in 2005 and together they had two beautiful children. His Mini-Me, Christian in 2006 and his princess Caliah in 2008. Andrew loved his kids and was a playful, fun dad, when he wasn't making them do chores.

Andrew met Shelby Boyer in 2009, she is the love of his life. Their passionate natures made their life difficult sometimes but they always loved each other. Their nine years together were made sweet by raising Christian and Caliah. (They call her Mama Shelby.) The family enjoyed playing board games, video games and road tripping to Salmon, Challis and Twin Falls. The girls helped Andrew in the kitchen, although they mostly got in the way.

Andrew was a clever chef graduating from Idaho State University Culinary Art School in 2013 with an Associates Degree. He held many restaurant positions throughout his life starting as dishwasher as a teenager. He started his own dessert company, Daddy B's Desserts, making delectable cheesecakes, cinnamon twists, brownies, cake-pops and other to scrumptious sweets. Many of his friends and family can blame Andrew for a few of the extra pounds they carry around.

Andrew was a talented technician and worked for different companies installing security systems, cable TV and internet. In 2016 he used his tech savvy abilities to start and run a content creators organization called The Supportive Creators. They have a presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch and other social media platforms. The tight knit community of techies quickly became family to Andrew. At the time of his passing Andrew worked for Always On Internet in Pocatello.

"I'd rather be the king of kids than the Prince of Fools" -by Jack Black sums up Andrew Burk's life motto.

Andrew is survived by his father Val Burk, his children Christian and Caliah, his girlfriend Shelby Boyer, their dog Ranger and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 11:00am at Liberty Hall, 325 W. Benton Pocatello, Idaho. A special thanks to Downard Funeral Home for their care and compassion.
